Major Priorities 2026/27
To Maintain high standards whilst ensuring that the Progression Code and Progression Steps underpin all planning, teaching, learning and assessments. This will be through the following Priorities
Priority 1 – English To further improve standards in English by embedding consistently excellent literacy teaching across the school, with a particular focus on higher-order reading, consistency across Cluster schools, spelling application and independent writing. |
Priority 2 – Mathematics To improve mathematical reasoning, challenge and adaptive teaching so that all learners achieve secure procedural fluency alongside deep conceptual understanding. Reintroduce the Maths No Problem scheme. |
Priority 3 – STEM and Independent Learning To establish Hengoed Primary as a model of authentic STEM learning by embedding independent enquiry and high-quality STEM environments across every phase. |
Outdoor Learning and STEM To maximise the school's outdoor space by developing purposeful learning areas immediately outside classrooms, enabling all pupils to access regular, high-quality outdoor learning with a particular focus on STEM, enquiry, independence and problem solving. |
Priority 4 – Wellbeing To continue to embed leadership at all levels. To improve attendance so that the whole-school attendance exceeds the agreed target of 94%. |
Priority 5 – Leadership To strengthen strategic leadership and accountability at all levels, ensuring that leaders and governors have a measurable impact on school improvement and pupil outcomes. |
