Hengoed Primary School eco committee is a group of pupils who work together to promote environmental awareness and sustainability within our school! Our main activities often include:
Raising Environmental Awareness: Educating students and staff about environmental issues like climate change, recycling, and biodiversity through campaigns, assemblies, and workshops.
Promoting Sustainable Practices: Encouraging energy conservation, reducing waste, and promoting recycling within the school community.
Organising Eco-friendly Initiatives: Leading activities like tree planting, setting up recycling systems, running litter-picking events, or creating wildlife gardens.
Monitoring Environmental Impact: Assessing the school’s energy use, waste production, and carbon footprint, and suggesting ways to improve.
Collaborating with Local Communities: Partnering with local organisations or other schools to support wider environmental efforts.
The goal is to make the school more environmentally responsible and to inspire students to take action for a greener future.
Hengoed Primary School Heddlu Bach is a Gwent Police initiative that allows students to work with local police officers to promote safety, responsibility, and good citizenship. The programme is designed for young students and focuses on building positive relationships between the police and the community.
What our Heddlu Bach Do:
Our Heddlu Bach program encourages children to become role models in their school, promoting respect and responsibility while learning valuable life skills.
Hengoed Primary School librarians play a vital role in supporting students’ learning and fostering a love of reading. They manage the school library and work closely with both students and teachers to provide resources and create a positive learning environment.
We aim to:
Encourage a Love of Reading: Librarians introduce students to a wide range of books, helping them find materials that suit their interests and reading levels, which cultivates a passion for reading.
Supporting Learning: They assist students with research projects, teach information literacy skills, and guide them in using online and print resources effectively. This helps develop critical thinking and independent learning.
Managing Library Resources: School librarians are responsible for organising, maintaining, and updating the library’s collection, ensuring access to books, e-books, and other educational materials that align with the curriculum.
Collaborating with Teachers: They work with teachers to recommend resources for class projects, support literacy programs, and create a learning-rich environment in the school.
Organising Library Programmes and Events: Librarians often host reading challenges, book clubs, and author visits, which enhance students’ engagement with literature.
