Welcome to the Caterpillar Class!
Mrs McPherson, Mrs Beecham and Mrs Moore would all like to welcome you to 'The Caterpillar Class'. We are a hard working, dedicated team of staff who work collaboratively to strive for excellence and hard work in everything we do. We aim to provide all pupils in our class with fun, engaging and stimulating classroom activities that enable our youngest pupils to develop into independent learners. We aim to ensure that all pupils enjoy their busy day in school and leave happy and better for it.
Our Weekly Activities:
Everyday our children engage in various phonics tasks and math tasks. We follow the Letters and Sounds and TAPAS programmes. Our classroom is enriched with opportunities to extend children's thinking, fine motor and gross motor development, creative, Welsh and understanding of the world. We challenge children to have a go, be independent and try new ways of doing things. We encourage children to play together, share and to respect each other. Our class is a 'Happy Class!'.
We do lots of special activities during the week including:
Marvellous Monday: Library Day and Cooking and Creative focus.
Tick Tock Tuesday: Singing, dancing and rhymes focus
Welly Wednesday: Outdoor learning focus
Thirsty Thursday: Science focus
Physical Friday: Movement focus
Parents receive a newsletter to tell them about our topic and all the things that are happening during the term. Children are asked to complete a Home-School Task twice a term, this usually related to the topic or current events in the calendar. We hold concerts and occasions where parents/families are invited into school to watch performances or to take part in workshops.
We keep a Learning Journey for each child and we meet parents twice a year to discuss children's progress.
We use Baseline Assessment during the first 6 weeks of a child's first term to assess children's learning and development across four areas of learning. Mathematical Development; Language, Literacy and Communication; Personal and Social Development and Well-Being; and Physical Development.
We have a lovely Snacks and Social session each morning and children, when ready, join in with Whole School Assemblies and concerts.
Summer Term 2019
Our Topic this term is On The Farm. We have created two role play areas in our learning environment. The children have contributed towards them by sharing their ideas and through producing home-school tasks.
The topic will support all areas of children's development and learning.
We plan to visit our local library this term for a literacy session based around the farm. Parents will be invited to attend with their child and take up the opportunity to join the library too!
Our school trip will be at Cefn Mabley farm near Cardiff. This will be later in the summer term and will be a lovely opportunity for children to see lots of what they have learned about in class in a real life situation!
Children are very much involved in the weekly planning of their learning journey experience. Our school values and promotes children's participation. We concentrate on the four areas of learning to create children who are:
